Beating Analysis Paralysis with Spontaneity

Analysis Paralysis - A term that can bring the worst out of any important event - Indecision.

That is exactly what this blog / website had been dealing with since the past few years. If you have known me since a while, you would have seen this website change shape at least half a dozen times during the decade plus relationship that I have had with it.

The blog started off as a way to channelize my sadness, anger, frustration and depression in a more productive manner.

When I was a young teenager, I would write poems and songs as a way to bring myself out of depressive episodes, and keep myself steady. Some of my friends and acquaintances who read through my work, suggested that I post them somewhere.

My tryst with blogging started off with Google Blogger. It was called Blogspot back then. Blogspot had a community of old school, still young boomers who had recently found a way to connect and share in a way that was new to them. I joined that bandwagon only to realize how beautiful internet is (or rather, was).

It was the era of new-age platforms like Myspace, Twitter, Facebook and Reddit. Internet had started to move on from IRC channels (Internet Relay Chats). Aaron Swartz was the poster kid who every Computer Science kid looked up to. There were a lot of websites such as Indiblogger, that connected these blogs in a much more organized way.

Indiblogger and the likes became instantly popular amongst boomers and millenials who got on the internet early because these platforms provided one of the psychological feedbacks that all of us crave - validation. Validation in the form of online journals that people read and could relate to. Validation in the form of being able to publish personal creations on a e-magazine that was visible to entire world. Validation in the form of having a community that was spread over the entire world that shared your interests as deeply as you did. These platforms were one of the many reasons I got into web design, coding, music, radio jockeying, drumming, photography, videography, and so many other areas, that it will take a while to list all of them down.

As I grew older - I, like many others in my age group who were once very active on these platforms, moved on from designing and maintaining these web pages. My distaste grew particularly strong when internet became the primary tool to advertise and grab attention, rather than a way to connect. Sure - there are certain ways in which we are still connected, but I feel that it is more to do with a dopamine hit and its addiction, rather than a genuine curiosity and a want to share beautiful messages.

My point is - Since a while, I have contemplated - loved a few times, and hated rest of the times - the idea of using this space as a way to position myself in a certain standing in society. That is what personal websites and blogs that come with the burden of a domain name have become off-late (in case you were unaware - that web address - mohitmadan.co.in that you see, is called a domain).

As such, I have been stuck in a analysis paralysis - undecided over what to do with this space. There are still some questions to be answered about what I would eventually end up doing with it. Until that happens - this website is going to be everything that I started this journey for. As old school as it might get, I hope to revive the passion with which I would maintain the blog - eventually paving way for me to enjoy doing this once again.

It might get random, and it might get amateur-ish, but what's the fun without making a few mistakes on the way? One thing I want to do is to keep it real. Let's stay real!

Until next time...
